I have a situation where I am wiring a home with a detactched garage in the back. The service will be mounted on the garage and I was going to install a 150A meter/ main that has an 8/16 panel and feed thru lugs. Then we are going to go underground to the panel on the house. I was having trouble locating a 150A MB panel with higher capacity than 30 circuits so I was going to install a 200A 30/40. It seemed an odd installation so I called the inspector just to get his OK before I ordered and installed the equipment. He checked with the asst chief who said no but couldn't cite a code article. The way I look at it is the panel is protected upstream at 150 and the MB on the house is essentially just a disco switch so it's rating doesn't matter much. What am I missing?
(I know there are other configurations that I could use to get this situation to work (MB kits on MLO panels etc) but I was looking to get this stuff ordered and installed out of local stock as time is a bit of a concern)
