Residental Panel Box Locations

Hello All,

Is it code compliant to install a residential panel box in a basement that does not have access from the house? Meaning that the home owner will need to go outside and into the basement to get to the panel box. That is defiantly "poor" design. Is there something in the code that will require the panel box in the main house.

Thanks....

Pretty much allowed anywhere in or on the premises except bathrooms or clothes closets where you can meet all the related Code requirements (110.26, etc)

I agree. I have installed them in a so called crawl space that upon entry had the clearances needed so I installed it there

Why is it "poor design"?

Putting it in the living room is also code compliant, maybe convenient to some, but I can tell you there are many people that would call that poor design also.

A well designed installation should mean very few trips to the panel by the owner are necessary, and as long as it is not in the way for daily activity should be just fine for most owners.
