Hi
I am pricing( I have got the job, my friend is the builder so I want to be fair and reasonable with him) my first boat dock and was wondering if $2500 is fair. The job consists of
- Replacing a 100 amp MLO panel at shore
- Circuits are:
20 amp lighting. 180'
50 amp power pedestal 150'
20 amp boat lift motor 100'
20 amp boat lift motor 100'
20 amp boat lift motor 120'
20 amp boat lift motor 100'

The old dock is being torn down and I am just re-wiring except one added boat lift. I am purchasing new breakers because the old panel had some damage and I do not trust them.

Not having done one before I am following the builders the builder told me the electricians typically use UF Cable so I plan on doing the same.

Any opinions?

Re: Residential Boat Dock

First of all have you considered (to save copper) installing a sub-panel close to the end using a 4cond feeder, then branching off with min. length branch circuits? this will save alot of UF not to mention helping alot with voltage drop. If this is fresh water, I would use 100amp moble home feeder (quadraflex)(about .90/ft) in 1-1/2 pvc with expansion couplings. The chances of these boat lifts being used more than one at a time are rare, so there wont ever be more than about 60amps used...as for the price, I have done a few (maybe a dozen) of these and always run into issues. Its best if possible to do it T/M. this way you fairly charge your friend and you also wont take a loss. dont forget your GFCI breakers for all these branch circuits

Re: Residential Boat Dock

You need to check with the AHJ and see if this is treated as a residential or commercial dock. If it is commercial, you will not be able to use RX. You must have insulated grounds.

If these are floating docks, then you should ground the ramp if it is aluminum.

I believe you are way to low on your price.
