Do floor receptacles require any special covers in a residence. I saw a install with standard plastic plates. ?

Carlon makes a floor box kit with a plastic cover, but they have lids that cose it up. The lid is the requirement.

You can still use an ordinary cover in a raised show window, if I remember rightly.

These guys just used the same stuff you would use on a wall.
Anyone know the code section. I left mine in the office..

The only floor box requirement that I am aware of is 314.27(C). That section requires outlet boxes installed in the floor to be listed specifically for that application.

It does not apply to surface mounted boxes.

they stock those in the big box stores around here, but with a plastic version of the cover, they install really easy, and I like the depth adjustment screw that allows you to adjust for carpet thickness.

I've used these often, and like them. Great for retrofitting old floor receptacles. (Usually a metal old-work box with a standard receptacle)

So then most of you would agree that if a EC used a regular duplex and plastic plate there would be a violation.

I'm not sure how 406.8(D) would enter into this, since 406.8 addresses wet and damp locations.
314.27(C) also enters into it.

edit to add: correct nec reference

I dont know of any violation I have seen them with standard plastic covers before usually under a desk or similiar location. Would not advise on a traffic area

I would bet that a standard receptacle and plate are not listed for in floor use. I have always thought it a violation but have not seen a specific reference to it in the code.

Iwire noted the violation.314.27(C)

C) Floor Boxes. Boxes listed specifically for this application shall be used for receptacles located in the floor.
. Receptacles and covers shall be listed as an assembly for this type of location.
