just saw info about (apparently) new technology in clothes dryer using heat pump technology on This Old House.

supposedly uses 40-50% of the power that traditional dryers use.
I know nothing about specifics. Be curious to see what the voltage, wattage, and cord configuration it has.
They didn't mention a specific manufacturer.

It'd be interesting to see how the code addresses this if the technology were to become more common and mainstream.

It would be another incentive for using the optional load calc method over the standard (nameplate versus 5kw).

these dryers don't need an exhaust vent, the moisture condenses and is pumped out to the drain. They are small and take a long time to dry.

They have heat pump water heaters now, too. They must be installed in a room of sufficient air volume to be the heat sink.

You must mean 'cold sink.' :p Installing an HP water heater means the room (basement, garage) it's in will get chilled!
