Re: residential service size conducters and condiut

The typical residential service of today usually requires a minimum of 200-amps. Really small homes and those with gas-powered aplliances may allow for a smaller service.

The code permits a minimum of a 100-amp service for a dwelling in any case.

The size of the conductors and conduit can vary depending on the situation. 2 inch conduit and 2/0 copper conductors are commonly used.

I would strongly suggest obtaining a current code book and ask yourself if you are positively sure you are qualified to handle a job of this scope. :)

Re: residential service size conducters and condiut

You need to go to section 220 and caculate the required service size. You may not need a 200 amp
service. The breaker size is meaningless in this process. You need the actual load.
