Are there any requirements in the 2008 NEC for installing GFCI protection for 240 volt sump pumps installed in homes? I am not looking for references to section 210.8 (A) (5). I specifically need the code section that refers to 240 volt sump pumps in residential construction.

Also, are there any requirements (UL, or otherwise) that require manufacturers of residential sump pumps to double insulate there products? If so, when did that requirement change?

Thank you for your assistance. And don't worry I don't install these for a living and would never try.

Where is it? If it is in an unfinished basement. Like some I've seen or perhaps a basement garage.
08 might say yes, you need gfci

The key to Bob's two responses are the voltage. 240 receptacles would not require GFCI protection.

FYI: I found out that sump pumps do not have to be double insulated and most of them are not. They are grounded instead. Thank you for your previous posts
