Residential surge protector trips frequently

My Aunt and Uncle have a older Television set,it's about 14 year old. When they turn it off for the night ,then turn it on in the morning it trips the surge protector/power strip. They've been having this problem for the last 2 weeks. There are other things on the circuit, but I haven't identify them yet. They said they haven't added or change anything on the circuit. What could be the cause of this, the Television set or maybe something else on the circuit .

Older TV sets, the CRT type have a degaussing coil around the CRT tube, it turns on for a couple of seconds at turn-on and draws a rather large amount of current. So i suspect the the surge strip has a weak breaker.

after the problem started they bought a new surge protector and that tripped too.So I had them plug it directly into the wall outlet and it worked fine whether it's off for a hour or several hours, but if it's pluged into a surge protector new or old and it's off for a long period of time it trips.
