Does anyone know if you can run romex from the outside panel thru the attic to pool pump equipment?
I have a contractor install a new inground pool at my house in Florida. I wanted to save a couple bucks and run the service myself. He is telling me, since its a feed for pool pump equipment I have to run THHN in conduit thur the attic. The house is only ten years old and is wired with romex. I checked the 2005 elect. code and cant find this any where.

Thanks rkipj

See 680.21(A)(1), and (4).

If this is outside your normal work experience, I would recommend deferring the work to the experienced pool contractor. There are many details to pool electrical installations that are more subtle than run-of-the-mill electrical work, and the consequences of a mistake can be lethal.

There's an old saying when asked "Wow, how much is that?!" and that is, "if you have to ask, you cannot afford it."

Likewise, when it comes to electrical wiring, knowing the "basics" is just NOT ENOUGH when it comes to playing weekend warrior on such critical and complicated things like swimming pools, spas, services, etc.
