I'm wiring a single family home. I ran a 12-2 home run to the living room which only has 2 outlets . The breakfast nook area is right next to the living room with no dividing walls seperating the two rooms.I continued the circuit into the nook area to pick up the 4 outlets in the nook area. The inspector told me I was not aloud to jump from one room to the next.I was not given an article number. My question is.Is there an article number in the code book stating this.

Re: Residential wiring

210.52(b)(1) requires breakfast room outlets to be on the 2 or more 20 amp small appliance branch circuits.

Re: Residential wiring

Micheal.if you are asking if it is ok to jump from room to room other than dinning/nook to kitchen receptacles?Yes it is ok if the circuit has outlets in a bedroom it must be ach fault protected. This does not include bathroom outlets though,Keep in mind local ahj might have certain restrictions. Here in Pasco dounty Florida,if there is a knee wall facing a dining area it is ok to place wall receptacles along the knee wall on the kitchen circuit, but if this wall faces a family room or simular then those receptacles have to be on the general purpose circuit. This can really be a pain when this senario is with an island that faces a dining and a family room.....
