Greetings,

I am working to request service for an abandoned building. The owner has asked me to design for the highest possible load i.e a restaurant. I was wondering what could be the highest load for a large restaurant (10000+ sq ft).

Do you guys have any idea?

He needs to provide you a foodservice equipment plan and a HVAC schedule, even if he just gets one from a similar sized restaurant in like climate. The rest you can ballpark (lighting, restroom fans, etc.)

i KNOW BUT WHAT IS THE BIGGEST SERVICE DISCOONECT THAT YOU HAVE SEEN FOR A BIG RESTAURANT? hOW BIG WAS THE RESTAURANT?

The largest possible load for a 10,000sqft single story space? Several megawatts, probably, for an industrial use like induction melting metal. If it were divided into four all-electric restaurants, each could require up to maybe a 2400A service max so that's a total of something like 3.4MW. A service like that is not something you install just in case.

It's extremely unlikely that the building will require anywhere near that much power. Even if it does become a restaurant it will probably only need a fraction of that. It doesn't pay to plan for the maximum possible load. Install a minimal service for warehouse usage and it can be upgraded later if a high-intensity occupancy comes in. The extra cost to redo the service later will be far less than the excess expense of a service that's many times larger than what's actually required.
