Retrofitting 208V area lights

I colleague was looking to retrofit LED lamps into some old parking lot lights (metal halide or sodium--I don't recall), but the light circuit is 208V. I think any LED listed as 120-277V or the like would be fine operationally. However, a normal bypass of the old ballast would mean having the lamp socket screw shell 'hot'. Is there a known work-around or clever product for this situation?
We discussed rewiring the circuit, but I'm curious if there is another safe solution.

They are hot now. Remove the ballast and igniter, rewire and screw in a corn-cob LED replacement.

That’s what I’ve done in the past. They make, or did, some that screw in, then unfold so more is directed down.
