Retrofitting 208V area lights

I colleague was looking to retrofit LED lamps into some old parking lot lights (metal halide or sodium--I don't recall), but the light circuit is 208V. I think any LED listed as 120-277V or the like would be fine operationally. However, a normal bypass of the old ballast would mean having the lamp socket screw shell 'hot'. Is there a known work-around or clever product for this situation?
We discussed rewiring the circuit, but I'm curious if there is another safe solution.
Thanks

if you're worried about the outer ring of a screw-in socket being hot, change the entire circuit over to 120v. going down to LED usually opends up enough ampacity on a circuit, it can be done without overamping. but the entire circuit must be converted to direct-wire.
