Greetings,

I've got an existing switchboard that has a spare bucket for auto transfer switch. I'm looking for a product that can be mounted inside this bucket and I think it would have to come without an enclosure, since the space is already tight in the bucket.
What would be the best path forward here? I'm planning to contact the vendors and inquire if they have products available for such application. Would it be possible to have one vendor install its equipment in switchgear made by another vendor. I wonder how the warranty would be affected. Alternatively, order a standard ATS with the required rating, remove the guts from the panel and install them in the switchboard.

Thoughts?
Thanks,
EE

Is this ATS intended to serve external equipment or protected load panel or is the intent to have the ATS feed the internal bus of the switchboard unit?

What you will find is that MOST of the MCC mfrs will have an option for mounting an ATS in their MCCs, but they will not be UL845 listed by the MCC mfr unless it is their own brand. But you mounting it in the field as a retrofit voids all of that anyway.

What you should do is to start with that information; contact the MCC mfr and find out how much space they require if THEY were to install the ATS, because that will dictate what to use and how you would do it. That's because you may not be properly thinking about required wire bending space, clearances and heat stacking in the MCC structure. Once you know what THEY needed to use, you know whether or not you can do it in the field.

Once you determine if it will work, most of the ATS mfrs will offer an "open chassis" version of their ATS. ASCO is the one I tended to use when mounting them in MCCs, their open chassis version is very compact compared to others.
