When the poco does undergrounding upgrades in a residential neighboorhood do they reuse the same meter pans or does all new equipment get installed?

Can they make the change without disconnecting the feeders on the customer side of the meter?

So are you in Indiana or Illinois? It could make a difference although I wouldn't think so.

Welcome to the forum.

Some meter bases can be fed from either overhead or underground, some only one or the other.

Here in Va, the POCO supplies bases, and will approve some others.

Only yours can answer this question for sure.

Does the existing base have bottom KOs? Can you seal the top opening?

When our utility made that change, they had a couple of local contractors do the work. They replaced the overhead meter cans.

Here when they did one town you can either pay an electrician to replace the meterbase or they run PVC up the side of the building and attach to the weatherhead. Its really goofy looking when that happens.

Around here, they often come up to the side of the meter pan, run a 90 degree sweep, and then an LB over the meter pan. Looks awful.

Sometimes they put a gutter over top of the meter pan, UG conduit lands in one end of the gutter, short nipple from the gutter to the pan.
