Going to VFD and removing existing across the line starter. Would like to use existing OCP consisting of an MCP & OL for overcurrent protection to new VFD located across the room.

Guessing 430.52 - 7 wouldn't allow this as I understand MCPs are only to be used in listed combination starters but would like to confirm

Yes MCPS are only allowed as part of listed controller, And your VFD may have a specific requirement for type of protection on the input side. There is no need for overloads, as the VFD has software defined overlords that are far more accurate than whatever you can put in.

It’s likely that the branch circuit breaker that feeds the existing panel with your MCP and overload‘s in it may be suitable for the new VFD when you could get rid of all that old equipment.

You cannot normally use a MCP with a VFD. HOWEVER, UL did list some that way but it requires you to use a specific part number MCP with a specific part number VFD.

Looks like this might be in an MCC. If so, best bet is to take the overload and MCP out and replace it with a MCCB of the same frame size.
