I will keep this short but will provide more info if needed
BGE (electrical service provider) meter caught fire. There was an existing 400amp service but it turns out it was a 200amp meter socket. BGE claimed it was ?bootlegged? and I needed to have the 400amp service permitted and inspected before they would tie in the service. I did not install the original service and did not look bootlegged to me which is beside the point.
There was an existing 200amp MB load center and one 200amp MB disconnect feeding an out building. Neither complied with current wire bending space. I replaced the load center, MB disconnect and circuit breakers to new equipment based on two things that I believed were required by the NEC and/or UL that I just can?t seem to locate. I believed that the AHJ would not have passed the heavy up based on the fact that the existing equipment didn?t meet current wire bending space. I also believed that there was a requirement (NEC or UL) that if you install used equipment it must be re-listed.
I am being challenged as to whether or not it was necessary to replace the existing equipment. If I am wrong then I am wrong so be it. I took a class several years ago and the instructor informed us of the above requirements. I am almost positive that we read it together in class but I can't remember where.
Any input would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you,
