I was instaliing some new lights and stuff today. The home is older with the 2 wire "romex" with no ground. If you have run into this cloth insulted stuff you know the white and the black can be hard to identify, this home had a bad case. I found an apparent white that was the hot and a switched neutral in another area. I told the home owner that it was a violation and every plug and light should be checked for polarity and retagged with phase tape and polarity corrected. The home owner asked what the problem was and I said it was a shock hazard in relamping or servcing the equipment and it was not a fire hazard.

For my information can anybody see any other potentional hazards or functionality issues?

Thanks

Re: Reverse polarity

some electronic equipment bond the frame to the neutral.Years ago this was common on TV sets. The risk of shock is high.I suggest test them all but if customer says no then cover your a$$ and state it on the bill
