The tire isn't insulated enough for higher voltages. It would have flashed over to the metal components on the bike.

What is crazy to me, is the power company knew the line was down, had put tape up to mark it (they found it) and still had the audacity to keep it energized...

The comment the grid is so iner graded it took time to de-energize that line

I didn't realize that a national grid would create that local condition of de-energizing a portion of the grid
