I'm an occupational health and safety consultant. One of my clients has rigid steel drops to receptacle boxes the are about 10 - 15 feet (3 - 5 m) from the ceiling that terminated to steel receptacle boxes. These boxes* caught my eye because they have knockouts* that I know are inappropriate for flexible cord use.

Where in NEC should I be reading to find out if these rigid drops are ok to begin with, and, if so, whether the existing steel boxes are ok?

* similar to this: Home Depot steel receptacle box

Thanks!

I don't think it is OK. I believe more than one code rule is being broken, but you can start with 344.30(B) Next it violates 314.23(F)
