Are just low fire alarm/tel/data cables plenum and riser rate? Also what are the different applications. Pretty much what it says?????Risers and plenum spaces??? THanks.

There is a heirarchy table in most of those articles. Generally, an 'x' suffix is for non-commercial, and probably not multi-family. Probably ok if in a metal raceway.

CM or no cables with no suffix are a general purpose type. The covering is PVC jacket or similar, best for cold or wet.

R suffix for riser is needed when the cable penetrates more than two floor levels. It can be used where the previous ones can be.

P suffix is for air-handling spaces, such as above a ceiling used for return air. It may be used in any of the previous locations.

Chapter 3 methods don't use the same suffix system, but there are restrictions as to what may be used in an air-handling space in Art. 300.

Sometimes I just use the Index like a word search to get a lead on a item's defination, then go read the article listing.
Sometimes I'll glance at the definations of 100, but considered that much more like a dictionary, thou.
But if the 100's don't have the defination doesn't mean that one aspect of an application isn't with-in another subjects matter.

You should remember the the Code will tell how each item is addressed as to it's usuage, and could change as the classification of the structures changes.
For example; most times it the rating of the insulation on a wire that is the limiting factor but once that is met, by the application and of course by the Code your good for the space or class of structure. It's once you leave that space, and you might be with-in a bigger structure, that the requirements could change. Usually in a engineer building the class of structure carries the worst case(most demanding) to be met and maintained.

The 700's contains and addresses alot of your subject matter, per item.

Plenum is for air spaces because it has low smoke propagation when it burns. And it doesn't burn as easy as riser or general cable. Riser doesn't burn as easy, so fire won't spread floor to floor via the cable jacket, same as plenum, but less smoke. Or so I've been told.
