I am confused in the 2008 NEC on the use or CATV or CATVR cables

The code says that you have to use CATVR cable if you are penetrating more than 1 floor ? I understand this as 2 or more floors

With this am I correct that if I only penetrate 1 floor I can use CATV cable?

Thanks for the help,

IHMO yes.

If that individual piece of cable goes directly to an adjacent floor only (up or down), then you don't need riser.

I think you would be hard pressed to find anything lower than CATVR from legitimate cable suppliers. There really is no price difference so you can use it for anything except plenum.

Then again you will have a tough time finding coax with any marking on it save a catalog number even though it is listed.
