riser runs

In the Mike Holt's DVDs Ryan said that only rigid pipe can be ran on bertical runs, because it has to have threaded connections, I'm running a hotel and I have riser runs on EMT, I don't see where in the NEC states that only threaded pipes have to be in risers. What About PVC I don't see why we can't run these wiring methods.

I don't know for sure but my guess is that Ryan was talking specifically about unsupported risers as allowed for IMC in 342.30(B)(3) and for RMC in 342.30(B)(3).
