Is it either NEC or NYC code that RMC has to be used exposed in mechanical rooms below 8'? Thanks.

Neither of those codes require RMC. I have seen it in a few specifications over the years.

Yes specs most often but haven't seen it in this spec I'm marking up. Guess we can use EMT for exposed receptacles in mech rooms. Don't see that often.
