Does the NEC call for the use of expansion fittings when crossing a building expansion joint between two buildings in a suspended slab using Rigid Nonmetallic Conduit (PVC)? If so please site the section of the code where this is called out.

This expansion joint is 2". Another words the buildings are only 2" apart from each other

No, however the conditions of the installation may require special consideration and additional means to ensure continuity of the raceway and its fittings.

I bet the job specifications call for it...ours always do.

Wouldn't 352.44 account for the use of expansion couplings in the application mentioned in the OP?...

If the expansion joint is in environmentally controlled space 352.44 will not call for one.

What is the reason for the expansion joints in buildings that are environmentally controlled?

The joints I was refering to at the time I read the thread was in areas like parking lot decks. Bob and I live/work in areas of large temperature swings during the year. We can see considerable movement in these type joints.

Would the wiring method you have mentioned have a listing as an expansion coupling? I myself would not approve such an installation. We had very similar installation. We called the manufacturer of the product, and they suggested not to use their product as an expansion coupling. The engineers of the parking deck required a 3 inch movement for the expansion coupling.

Pierre, understand I firmly believe expansion joints are needed, I just don't see that there is any way to get 352.44 into the picture.

He has 2" exposed, unless he lives on the moon he will not get more than 1/4" of movement in that 2" due to thermal expansion / contraction.

IMO this is more like trying run a pipe between two moving objects.

The question is does the code require an expansion fitting when RNC (PVC) crosses a expansion joint between two buildings? The space between the two buildings is 2". It is not conditioned in this 2" space. If so where in the code is it called out.
