Who is calling it RNC? Look at Article 352. RNC left the NEC after the 2005 edition.

From 2005:
352.2 Definition
Rigid Nonmetallic Conduit (RNC). A nonmetallic raceway of circular cross section,
with integral or associated couplings, connectors, and fittings for the installation of
electrical conductors and cables.

Article 347 was a generic Article that applied to all non-metallic raceways no matter what they were made of. RTRC and HDPE existed before they were split out of Article 347 as I have found proposals related to those products in the ROPs prior to 2002. I believe HDPE was split out in 2002 and RTRC split out in 2005, however there are still a few references in the code to RNC. I have come across some FRs to remove most, if not all, of those references in the 2023.

In almost all cases, if you find it on project documents, they are referring to PVC conduit.

I had not even noticed that they changed the name of this stuff. I always referred to it as PVC conduit anyway.
It is my opinion that prior to the 2002 code, where the term RNC was used, you were permitted to use PVC, HDPE or RTRC, or any other non-metallic raceway, as they were all covered by that term.

A Fine Print Note, following 347-1, in the 1990 code said that these materials are recognized as having suitable physical characteristics for use as RNC.
fiber (not sure what this type is)
asbestos cement (also known as transite)
soapstone (I have never heard of this one as a conduit)
rigid polyvinyl chloride
fiberglass epoxy (now know as RTRC)
high-density polyethylene (now known as HDPE)
