NEC 2014 is in effect. Is romex allowed, it was. Then wasn’t allowed in 2009. I don’t have my code book with me today. Is it still a violation. The cooks must have wired this place restaurant (Real bad wiring. No fittings or connectors. Wiring entering boxes and sharp edges in fixtures no connectors straight in sharp holes. Laying on drop ceiling etc. it’s yellow 12/2 So it’s newer) 50 % is metal clad which is original wiring

All I have in front of me is the 2017 book but it would be no 334.12(A)(2)

I wasn't sure when it changed but don says 2005, and that sounds about right.

It is still allowed in such ceiling in a dwelling. No fittings, laying on the ceiling still wouldn't have been allowed though. The yellow 12 AWG NM cable was around before 2005, maybe not much long before though. I want to say somewhere around 2000 is when you started seeing that.
