Apparently the person who did this commercial office space has never heard of 334.12(A)(2).

Amongst all the romex unsupported, open splices, and 2in. of wire into the fixture, I had an great time. I got to change out 6 ballasts and a whole bunch of lamps without my boss showing me what needs to be done. All by myself. :D

I seriously doubt that any licensed person did that work. Looks more like a building maintenance man or custodian did that work.

That's not a 'rats-nest' on top of the troffers.

That's 'efficient planning for the next tennant who wants to move the lights' wiring.:D

around where i live we have a lot of old mills that people bought and "fix up" and build rooms to rent out to people. a lot of my friends are in bands and they rent out the rooms and i go over and hang out with them. as i walk through the mill i see wiring like this everywhere in every mill ive been in. ive seen romex ran without supports going into lights hanging from jack chains without romex connectors and panels without covers in the tenants spaces. hack wiring like this is very common in places where people are too cheap to hire real electricians its pretty funny sometimes

Probably the work of a handy Andy type maintenance guy like Mark says. I see this kind of pathetic wiring in the public schools around here all the time. The custodian wires his house with romex on the weekend and the school with it during the week. Shame. State Ed's asleep at the wheel, anyway. In a lot of ways.

i found a burned up melted screw driver in the maintenance departments room the other day at an office building we were working at. i really hate it when unlicensed handy men touch electrical wiring without knowing what they are doing
