Raceways or cable trays containing electric conductors shall not contain any pipe, tube, or equal for steam, water, air, gas, drainage, or any service other than electrical.

I meant to type in the same "stud opening", not "stub". I just meant in the same wall stud opening. I am very limited in paths to the light switch, and the homeowner already ran a flexible gas line for his grill in the opening for the light switch. I guess I could fit some conduit in the opening if that would be permitted.

No, I was asking about running the romex in the same stud (not stub) opening down an exterior wall that the flexible gas line is already running down.
