Been wanting to pick up a Romex Cable Holder - seen some that attach to studs. Anyone have experience with various manufacturers, and any recommendatoins? Found a Greenlee - and it's actually stackable, which allows for a second reel. The ones I'd be interested in are mainly for the 250' coils, but I'd also like to hear any specifics on ones for the 1000' coils - altough I just had one supplier indicate that their Romex supplier has just implemented a "reel charge" - although he failed to tell me what it is.

Thanks

Dave

I have a old lazy susan looking thing that I got from my father long ago. It works great on rolls or reels. It heavy so it doesn't want to move as you pull.

We used to make our own from scraps of junk around the jobsites. Lately we've been buying a ptoduct from a company called Stud Reel. Very cool.

bkludecke - did a google on "stud steel" and didn't come with anything close to a romex dispenser. Can you give me a supplier, or maybe contact info for the manufacturer?

Oops - let me try again - you said "Stud Reel", not "Stud Steel" - DOH!

Thanks

I just bought some that will convert to either 2x4 stud or floor stand, I'll look up the manufacture tomorrow for you... they work great by the way.

I have one that comes with a bracket to attach to a wood stud or floor stand.
It is made by Carlon. Cost about $50.
It is perfect for NM and MC.

I used it for 10-2 MC coils and can pull it out from the center with no problem.

I highly recommend it.

I agree the racteteers are your best option, you can use them when your running THHN's, low voltage wire and they take up very little room in your truck.:D

I use the Rack-A-Tiers for reels. Also for THHN's, alarm wire, etc.

The reel charge is usually $1.00 around here. i.e. 1000' of romex cost $1 more than 4 coils.

These are great!

 I've been using a "Wire Wheel" Romex dispenser from Associated Electrical Products for a decade or so. I like it because it is free standing. Just set it down anywhere and start pulling wire. I got the two wheel model and usually load one wheel with 12/2 and the other with 12/3. It's also great for pulling two cables at one time. I still have one of those fold-up dispensers that hook onto a 2x4, but never use it any more. Too often run in to 2x6 studs or shear paneled walls and can't find anything to hook it on.

Tug-Wise

Tug-Wise

I use a product made by Tug-Wise. http://www.tug-wise.com

It can be used with smaller reels such as Romex reels etc... as well as large wooden reels (for teck cable for example). It is adaptable and is designed to be used with a 1/2" removable rigid stem that threads into the center of the tug-wise for smaller wire reels.

On larger wooden reels you just screw the tug-wise to the base of the reel so it's upside down and sit the reel on the ground for easy pulling.

The tug-wise saves a lot of time because you're not fighting with large reel stands.

We just make a mark on 3 side by side studs 30" high, hammer 2 EMT drive straps in 1/2 way into each stud, place two 1,000 reels on a 40" piece of 3/4" EMT, lift the spools up and set the EMT onto the nail straps and hammer them in. The spools fit between the stud spaces just fine.
