I sometime use 250' rolls of romex and I'm getting tired of unrolling it by hand. What's a good romex cart to buy?
Thanks!

For new construction, I used and enjoyed stud reelers.
I guess that would be okay if all you did was new work. If you're also doing service and old work, you definately need something that will sit on the floor. I know that a lot of guys use Greenlee's "sit-n-spin" (cat#37218 ) that is mostly used for MC with NM cable also. That model has the problem of overtraveling, and whipping a loop down under the reel and getting all jammed up.

Is that someone you know?

It looks like he's installing it with a nice twist in the left picture, and doing the hand-over-hand walk-it-out method in the right one.

Larry, I really think that the guy is lost in the picture.

Jim have you rver seen a romex spinner ?????? You can make one that works great for a few $$$$$. Using one end of a wooden wire spool and a few feet of s link drop chain, A chain clasp from Big O.Lay a roll of NM on the spool centering it and mark the inside of the NM roll in a complete circle.Attach three 18 in pieces of s chain in a triangle pattern,Keeping them about 1 in into the space the roll of NM will be.

Then making sure all are equal, attach them to a larger sized s hook then cut a piece about 12 ins. long attach this to the s hook that has the 3 pieces on the opposite end. With a 2nd s hook attach all of this to a chain clasp the type that has a swivel.A good one goes for about $4.00, look at them there are some that have a nylon type bushing theses work best.Make sure the clap end is large enough to easily clip onto a piece of NM.

To use this contraption, simply cut a piece of NM long enough to go over the russes and back down to about eye level and twist it together and slide it till above your head.Drop a roll of NM on the spool and pull the chain up and simply clip the clasp on the hanging NM.Your ready to rock and roll.It will pull off as straight as can be.

They take up hardly and room and I usually keep a few around for 3 wire and for pulling home runs, they totally eliminate the need to constantly walk out footage from a 250 ft roll and make for the neatest job.

You can make variation for running your 6/2, 6/3 8/3 etc.....Using a couple of short 2 X 4`s nail them into an inverted tee making sure the base is wide enough to hold the diameter of the coil. Wrap the entire thing into a triangle, Under the base and across the top with some 12/2 securing it with some staples.Using the same type chain and swivel clasp as before attach the spinner to a swivel , drop your wire cut onto it and hook onto a piece of hanging NM.

For about $20.00 and some scrap spools you can make enough to make pulling NM a breeze.

You guys are rich!

If I need an extra spinner, I screw a 24" 2 x 4 perpendicular to another 24" 2 x 4.

I then find a piece of scrap metal banding/strapping, cut it to about 18" to 20" and drill hole in center so that it allows an 8d nail to slide through up to head. Then screw the strap to my vertical riserto form an upside down U with the hole in the center of the U.

Stick an 8d nail through from the bottom, and bend a sharp hook in the nail - that's the swivel part.

Hook the nail over a piece of 12/2and tie it off to a rafter or door frame.

Waa-Laa took me longer to type this than to make another spinner!

I make them almost the same way. Except instead of banding material, I use 12-2 and wrap the T with it and nail it down with some staples. I then run the nail through the 12-2 for my hook. Works like a charm.

I`ve made those also but the ones I made have lasted almost 10 years now and work as well now as the day I made them. They also take up less space.

Carlon makes a nice romex/mc spinner that either mounts on a 2x4 stud or sits on the floor. The model# is WK7203. They work great. I used home made rx dispensers for years and finally broke down and bought one of these when I saw them at Menards last fall. I went back and bought 2 more.
