If I have Romex running through joists in basement, as they approach the panel, am I allowed to run the cable vertically along the wall (stapled of course) down to the panel?

Is this considered a violation of NM cable running unprotected along unfinished basement walls?

I have around 20 circuits. Would I have to transition each to conduit to enter the panel? I wouldn't have room to do this
