Romex in commercial buildings NOT Multifamily

I like to refer to the person that does work like this 'joe candyman'. Even after investigating the damage done by vandals, apparently there some issues before they did their damage. We found lots of romex strung a lot of places, conduit bent without a bender to make a ninety to other outlets, and some of the romex not connected properly and the more scary part is finding some 'damaged bare' copper wire that appears to have been done by the installer.. Don't have my code book handy, but i do recall that in most non dwelling places romex could not be used in commercial except very few exceptions for type IV or construction etc..,

What code article was it about Non metallic sheath cable romex not being used in commercial buildings? Also, other concerns are assuming the responsibility of replacing sub-panel etc.. I recommended to the boss that because of some of the other stuff found that even the vandals didn't do he should either get a bid for the entire wring, or pass on it entirely because of the liability.

They can install new sub-panels and try to splice all the wires in the old service as well, (without replacing the service panel even though all wires cut, breakers falling out and the can is bent etc.. maybe the buss bar is ok, not sure yet) but it appears to go over 50% of some of the issues the handy man work that was done is just too much liability in my opinion. Where you do you all draw the line on just 'repairing' the visual damage vs 'let us rewire' most of this or we are not doing it.

Romex can be used in a commercial building, just depends on the building classification. Did they at least use duct tape on the conduits where they made the turns? LOL! We have plenty of buildings like that around here! The AHJ may require it brought up to code if it is written in their requirements.

Type NM-B cable can be used in commercial buildings. The code section you want for where it can't be installed is 334.12
Also look at 518.4. Assembly Occupancies

Thanks, finally had a chance to read some of the articles, 518 and 520. This romex is definitely a violation as suspected. Bootlegged handyman just did what they wanted to do. The more we open up some things, the more concern I have about inheriting the potential serious miswiring of things as some of it was having bare copper hot wires that could short, grounds used as neutrals etc.. . The boss will have to decide if the risk is worth it.

I tried that method like 40 years ago. No matter how tight I packed the sand, and how good I sealed the ends with tape it looked like chit, and took forever

I was talking about EMT, LOL! I wired a retail store and the owner ran out of money before I finished. His maintenance guy finished up what was left. He could not bend conduit, so where he needed to turn, he would just butt the conduit together, and duct tape the open joint! He would put the wires in the conduit as he ran each stick.
