Romex in PVC conduit for pool

I'm running a line about 35' in pvc, instead of using THHN can I safely run romex through the conduit? and is it ok for code?
Also, I'm putting a timer in the basement I was wondering is there a way to bypass the timer and turn the filter on by the pool without having to run in the basement to turn timer off? thanks for any info. Ron, Buffalo,NY

NM Cable is not permitted to be installed in a wet location.
Raceways installed below grade outside are considered as a wet location.

I just noticed that you are not an electrician. Maybe you should look for a qualified electrician to install the wiring for your pool.

Just to clarify, not only below grade but outside in a wet location is also not allowed even above grade.
 
I still cannot understand why this type of question gets asked so often. What is easier about trying shove a cable assembly into raceway as opposed to pulling single conductors?

Because there is probably a roll of the stuff sitting around as opposed to multiple rolls of THHN etc. sitting around.

Many resi guys don't pull much wire so often there either isn't any on the truck or they don't have all the colors they need.

I can't tell you how many pieces of romex I have seen pulled thru a whip to the a/c.
