What is the proper way of installing romex on the engineered TGI floor joist? I have seen it done a few different ways such as on the side of the top 2x or on the ? ply webbing itself.

If you use the edge of the top 2x I would be concerned that somewhere down the line that it could be damaged from a nail from above. You can either use the top of the bottom cord of the tgi or staple to the osb material itself. When you have to run alot of wires parallel with a tgi truss,I cut lumber to fit in between nail in place every 2 feet or so and use these as a support.

I think if I were an electrician I would consider a few different things. First, I would not secure to the bottom flange for fear of a drywaller missing the flange and nailing my wire. Second, I would staple in the web and perhaps tweak the ends of the staple with a pair of needlenose to make them less subject to withdrawl. Third, I would stay away from the pre-drilled holes so that if the plumber (or other) needs to use them they would not have to re-route my wires.

Remember that the NEC simply states that they must be secured at 4.5 feet. The manner in which you do it is your business, so I wouldn't lose much sleep over it.

One problem with stapleing to the osb is that the staples are longer than the osb is thick. You may staple a cable to the osb and that is fine, but after you are done an apprentice might come along and staple a cable to the other side of the osb. Useing the top or bottom 2x might place the cable to close to driven nails or screws. If I were to choose between these two methods I would choose "directly on the osb". However Waynes' idea sounds pretty good, it might even save time when doing several parrallel runs

Small holes in the web and tie wraps. Multiple parallel runs go quick when you reuse the holes from the last tie wrap as the parallel cable stack expands with each new one.

No sharp stuff poking through the other side, and the row of loops of tie wrap on the other side should be a clue to someone fastening on that side that there's something on the other side they don't want to damage.

Ryan the pre drilled holes?? Well actually in a TGI truss there are only pre punched holes.A/c and plumbers make their own holes within required limits. The pre punched holes are only 1 inch wide and are never aligned(guess that depends on framers ???)If we are in before other trades that falls on the GC.If we wire first then others go around or issue a P.O. to change......

Wayne: In my opinion, sometimes the change order isn't worth the pain in the a$$ of re-installing your work. I would stay away from the "pre-punched" holes.

Since we are the last trade in a home before insulation and drywall,I tell the guys to use the
pre punched holes.I could not fathom wiring a home before plumbers or mechanical contractors are done. Also as said already they usually make their own holes within allowed areas allowed.
