have a sinrrom addition on the back of house..original service is in the sunroom where the back door used to be...they have a 2'' rigid pipe going through the roof, but its not used for support...question is do i need to run rigid or can i use emt or pvc?, since its not used for support and its not freestanding its 1/2 off the side of the house

Usually this is covered by the local utility's handbook. Around here, you would have to stick with rigid.

It fall on the local AHJ and POCO rules, around here they will accept any NEC approved methods.

If it is used for support local poco requires 2 1/2 " minimum If not 2" pvc is fine.
