When you guys have to penetrate existing roof for your conduits do exclude the penetration and state by others or just the sealing etc ? Thanks
Actually industrial job. You would exclude penetrations? Are you referring to a roof in a commercial building? I don't think that any electrical contractor would want to take on the liability of a leak unless they were going to sub out the sealing job.
Will you be subbing it out to a roofing contractor or will the foreman send the apprentice up to the roof with a bucket of tar? Unless one of your electricians is also a professional roofer IMO it's not worth the potential liability associated with a leak to get involved with patching any type of rood penetrations.Actually industrial job. Yes but I'm referring to the actual coring/penetrations of roof. Will you be subbing it out to a roofing contractor or will the foreman send the apprentice up to the roof with a bucket of tar? We do our own coring, but coordinate with having the roof patched before we core. Most often, we need to stick a conduit up and then they have to put a boot over it, Then and only then can we connect it or continue it.Yes but I'm referring to the actual coring/penetrations of roof.
If it's just coring the hole then yes the electricians typically do that. The patching/waterproofing the penetration is by others.Yes but I'm referring to the actual coring/penetrations of roof.
Except maybe spell by correctly.."All roof penetration sealing and flashing to be performed buy others"
Just another line item in the contract, along with all the other things we don't/won't do, like repairing pretty much any finished surface, compaction and grading, etc.
We cut the hole and run our pipe, then the roofer handles it from there. I also coordinate with the roofer and/or GC so we aren't leaving a hole open for weeks. We do seal penetrations on vertical surfaces and I'll stick a boot on a mast before I install the weather head, but that's about it. You don't want the liability of dealing with roof penetrations, water can cause massive and expensive damage.
You got me there, autocorrect strikes again. Definitely correct on the contract though, and probably worded differently.Except maybe spell by correctly..
