I have to install a roof heat cable for a customer who has a bad ice dam that cause leaks inside the house. Any recommendations? It is a small area, probably 24 sq ft. Grainger Tools has 50 feet cables for $345. Have you installed these? Thank you. Steve

Get 100 feet from Home Depot for a lot less - $74. See here.

Thanks, I read the reviews about the HD cable, they said the clips were flimsy and dont hold up.
Plus, the stores dont stock this item here, and from past experience, ordering through HD can take months...

probably not what you'd expect to hear from an electrician, but maybe they need to properly prepare the roof with ice and water barriers, attic insulation and ventilation, etc. If you can keep the higher portion of roof from being too much warmer then the lower portions you don't develop ice dams in the first place. Sometimes it is hard to prevent though, like maybe where the sun hits the high portion of the roof but the lower portion is in the shade.

I agree.
