I have been asked to install roughly 75 detectors on flat roofs. The device takes a 12v feed. What is the best way to run the cable across the roof? I will be mounting a xfmr inside and running the cable across the roof. The cable will be a Belden 16 or 18awg. I am looking for any advise I can get on this one.
Thanks,

IMHO, best method is RMC on sleepers, next best PVC on a lot of sleepers, last choice would be EMT. In this area EMT on roofs does not seem to last.

I would not even think of running just cable.

The engineer for the project thinks it is fine to run the cable across the roof. What code article can i state to show this would be a violation of the NEC to install the cable in that manner.

I can't think of any NEC section that would prohibit these cables assuming they are outdoor type cables. To me it reeks of cable TV installers.

Ask the engineer how often the cable needs to be supported by code. Then ask him to put it in writing or an email so you can proceed with the instalation. Oh btw I think b-line makes nice roof support blocks with kindorf imbedded I will try to find a link.
