I have an Inca planer. The drive gear is plastic, and is the achilles heel of the design; it's melted twice. Several folks online have switched this gear out to a gear motor. I decided to try it, but I know nothing about these things. The motor they suggested was Bodine 33A3BEPM-5R, which is DC, 1/11 hp, 42 rpm. I just bought it.

I'm hoping someone can help this rookie out with 2 basic questions (for now!):

1. Currently the shaft points straight down to the table it would be mounted on. I need it to stick out to the right, 90 degrees from this. I'm thinking this thing can be rotated by undoing those 2 long screws, rotating the head, and retightening. Is that right? Please tell me its adjustable :)

2. I hear I need a speed controller. Someone recommended Bodine WPM-2137E1. I think this model is good up to 1/6 hp. I'd like to get one used, and there are several other Bodine models, such as the 835, which are much cheaper. Bottomline: What sort of speed controller do I need? (model?) Just need to get something that works and is reliable.

Thank you! I hope someone understands these things. Rick

What petersonra said. Plus, you're likely to have much more luck on a woodworkers forum, or one dedicated to the machine you have. Good luck.

I let it ride for a bit since it was asking about the mechanical aspect of replacing it not the electrical. It really isn't the site for it as mentioned above

This site is designed for:
  • Contractors
  • Electricians
  • Engineers
  • Inspectors
  • Instructors
  • Other electrically related individuals
This NEC® Forum is for those in the electrical and related industries. Questions of a "How-To" nature by persons not involved in the electrical industry will be removed without notice.

Knowledge and the practical application of the National Electrical Code is an essential part of all electrical installations. If it's important for you to understand the National Electrical Code, then look no further.
