Room Exit

As far as exits are concerned, the room I am looking at needs two exits, doors swinging out, with safety bars. (6'+, 1200 amp MCC room) However, it is not set up as such. Neither door has the safety bars, and one swings in. I believe the exit rule is new as of 2002, so this room pre-dates that. Is this room required to make a change, or can it remain as it is until remodeling is done?

as i remember the explaination of this "building code" change, the existing switchgear rooms would be grandfathered in "as is". newly designed switchgear rooms would be required to meet the new standards.
