I've only done one elevator (with a machine room), and now I'm looking at an MRL (Machine Room-Less) with all the equipment in the pit. What sort of headaches do I need to look out for?

My understanding is that since the hydraulics are in the pit, a sprinkler will be required there. The plans do not show a sprinkler or heat or smoke detector at the top of the hoistway. Do my elevator and cab disconnects need to be NEMA 3R or even 4? It looks like they will be more than 4' from the floor of the pit. I plan on using a Littelfuse LPS elevator shunt trip disconnect since it has all the tie-in points, relays, etc. for the fire alarm.

Coordinate the location of the control panel (shun-trip) with everyone! We just got banged for a change order because the elevator vendor called for it at the top of the shaft, but the elevator inspector failed it. If it is sprinklered it should have a heat detector at the top and in the pit.
