Rotary phase converter specs say that it needs to run for at least 3 seconds before starting the motors.

Does the phase converter need to be on a motor starter, or can it be just a NO contactor? I was thinking I could put one ahead of the phase converter with a start/stop, and put a delay timer between that starter and the motor starters for the load. Is this the typical method?

It needs to be dummy-proof. It’s going on a grain elevator.

We use a 3 Phase Pump Panel sized for the single phase input of the Converter with the loads cycling as needed. Think Pivot towers. Bring the generated phase back up to the top of the PP, fuse it, run thru the motor starter then on out to the motor loads. Typically the phase converter runs all day but using control logic to start the RPC then delay motor(s) any time any motor start button is pushed could be done.

Even the slowest guy will figure out he has to start the RPC first. Keep the controls separated by 5 seconds of walk time.

Ordered the phase converter today; looking at the spec sheet, the capacitor panel is included.

It’s going to get very limited use so didn’t want it setup to run constantly. its going out at my dads farm, and if there is a way to screw something up, his help will find it.

They had an 8-pin delay timer relay on the shelf for $100, so decided I’d go with that.
