How much % of a project do you guys see as rough installation? A complete wall rough with lighting feeds no ceilings. I see fixture placement as part of finish ceiling. I kinda thought of it as around 65% for wall rough, 25% for trim out and 10% for punch?
Any input is greatly appreciated.
Thanks

I'll get 40% at signing, 30% after rough (but BEFORE rough inspection), 20% after trim (prior to final inspection) and 10% after final.

In NJ, final payment cannot be made until AFTER final inspection. I try and leave as little final payment as possible "just in case". If that means I have many smaller payments to take, no problem - it also helps the HO stomach the bill.

I'll trim before the walls/ceilings are painted if I feel another trade (or even the HO) is dragging their feet.

All extras, changes and moves get paid(in full) as soon as that task is "complete" ~ complete doesn't need to mean "finished", it means when the rough portion is done. I can't have the extras, changes and moves payment be dependant on the final inspection.

I'll add that I rarely do large projects directly for owner, but if I do, I'll often get a deposit. In MA it is not legal to get more that 1/3 of project cost for a deposit, though.

1/3 to start
1/3 after rought inspection
1/3 the day i start the finish,or durring the finish,
tell them your payment terms,up front, dont suprise anyone with your wishes.
