If alterations are being made to and existing lighting circuit (ie: adding switch and installing three switch) and a rough inpection is required, what is required for the rough? Do I run the new cable and leave it unterminated?

Complete the work so that next activity is installing the switches, fixtures, and activating supply.

Re: Rough inspection - alterations

The supply is already active. The circuit already has 2 lights on a single switch. I'm changing to have a 3-way switch for 1 light, and a single switch for the other. What would an inspector look for at the rough inspection?

I would look to see if the job is done correctly.

Very basic fundamentals. Wire make up, physical protection, securing, and correct material.

Usually on an alteration or a minor new installation, a separate rough and final inspection isn't needed. Contact the building department and ask where you need to stop before getting the rough approval. This inspection would include everything as listed by Bennie. :)

if you had to pull a permit...most likely will require a rough-in inspection before you cover the walls....lots of cities use combination inspectors to inspect residential...they will be looking at lots more than electric...
