I swear round electrical boxes are against the electrical code - we had a huge argument with an electrical inspector years ago - but it seems that is not true anymore - or was that a local code?
314.2 Round Boxes. Round boxes shall not be used where conduits or connectors requiring the use of locknuts or bushings are to be connected to the side of the box.
thanks so you need a flat area for the connections.Round boxes are permitted but you cannot enter the side of a round box under specific conditions.
You have a particular box in mind? Perhaps a picture? If box meets the already mentioned criteria dont see a problem. We use round PVC floor boxes in poured concrete floor regularly.I swear round electrical boxes are against the electrical code - we had a huge argument with an electrical inspector years ago - but it seems that is not true anymore - or was that a local code?

That's correct or a round box designed for entry with hubs like in post #4.thanks so you need a flat area for the connections.
Yeah most say Round, but it's listed as an octagon box. Serves same purpose. Most truly round boxes I've seen have been either strictly for nm or have rear KOs or built in hubs to connect PVC conduit or threaded hubs. This is what we call a round box. What's the problem?
