I have decorative exterior lighting going in the side of a round concrete column.

I have not seen a round masonry box. I’m thinking I’ll use these, and use the ears to tie wire the box to the rebar before the pour.

Aluminum boxes should not be embedded in concrete as they will eventually disintegrate. What about a steel concrete mud box?

You can use a standard 4/O octagon box. They make clips that you can bang onto the edges of the box and screw them to forms so they finish flush to the concrete surface. Duct tape the box up good so it doesn't fill with concrete. Another good method is to use a short piece of 1/4" allthread. Barely catch a couple of threads in the back of the box with a hex nut. Drill a 1/4" hole in the form board and use a washer and hex nut to draw the box tight to the form. After they pull the form boards, use channellocks to remove the allthread and your box is flush with the concrete.
