How does this connector get attached to the end of RGS? It's threadless but doesn't look like a compression type.

No they do not. In my experience insulated throat connectors are pretty useless for large raceways.

Because when you pull in large conductors with a tugger about half of them will get broken or just pull right out when the nose of the conductors comes through the raceway.

If they don't break yes they can. Personally I prefer a cheap plastic bushing.

Yes. They're great when they work but we stopped using them after a job or two because they would get damaged during the wire pulls and you would then need to install a bushing anyway.

Also, often the spec calls for them so how could you NOT use them? They are part of the connector.
