I have had 2 bounced checks paid to me this week. Both times the situation was rectified by the other party calling me even before I knew about it and was taken care of by them with bank fees paid. What do you guys charge/do for bounced checks?

If someone calls me before the bank does and covers all the fees, I'll probably let it slide. Once. If they do it again, it's certified funds NOW or I talk to the district attorney about it. Most places take a very dim view of bounced checks.

I think in Illinois if they make good on the check within 30 days, there's no issue. I wouldn't complain if they rectified the situation. Charging a fee for a bounced check would only happen if they didn't cover it within 30 days. In Illinois that's a windfall with triple damages. That applies to NSF, not Stopped

I think I agree. If it is taken care of on their part that quickly and it is not a repetitive event, than most likely the discomfort of the situation and the bank fees are probably enough.

This is the kind of customer you don't ask for additional charges.

My bank just sent me a note that a check I deposited bounced yesterday. I notified my friend that 'collects money' for me from my customers about it and told me that I will be paid in cash, including the bank fees within the next 5 days. I was right in the middle of a service change out and was allready under enough stress. [It was finaled today, POCO to be out to do a disconnect/reconnect saturday] Its nice when things work out though.

I had a police chief in a small PA town tell a title company that he paid money held in escrow to me in cash and didn't get a reciept and wanted the money from the escrow. He was full of it and it took some convincing and a bunch of regular phone calls to convince the title company to send me the check. I had to bring up the fact that he said he paid me and didn't say there was a problem with the work. It was for work in a house he bought for his daughter.
