I have two questions relating to the inspection of rubber safety gloves. Table 130.7(C)(7)(c) of the 70E shows that the maximum test interval for gloves is "before first issue" and "every 6 months thereafter". I have inquired about the testing requirements "before first issue" as to why these could not be adequately tested by the manufacturer before receiving them. The caution seems to be associated with potential damage during shipping but most all of our electricians are remote from a lab and so pre-inspection for us means two additional road trips to and from the testing lab and only serves to exacerbate the concern. How can the gloves be shipped from a testing lab and at the same time be in compliance?
Secondly, it is unclear to us how 250.2 (B) applies to gloves (250.1(2)) where the guidance is to inspect "before initial use, and at intervals thereafter... in no case shall the interval exceed 3 years..." We understand that Chapter 2 is centered on maintenance issues but having two separate standards for the same potential work activity doesn't make any sense. What are we missing?
